It keeps on raining!!

The weather is really not cooperating with any of our farm endeavors. We have flats of vegetables ready to plant out in the field but it is far too wet to till and plant. The cool temperatures and lack of sun are even slowing the hoop house vegetables growth. We feel like we have every square inch of plantable space jam packed but they continue in suspended animation. The upcoming week promises more of the same dreary weather. We continue with a strand of hope that we will have something to offer during the week of April 11th. There is a possibility that we have to push the harvest start date to the following week, but for now even if it is small we are planning to harvest on April 10th. The opening potluck will happen on the April 10th no matter what happens with the harvest.

We have put together the list of vegetable starts we will offer this season. Members will receive a copy in their email. Once I figure out how to add a PDF the order sheet will be found under the “extras” menu . We will not have the warm weather crops until May but some of the cool weather crops will be available in April. You can always ask for items you want that you don’t see on the list and we can let you know if we can supply them.

March 27 farm images

Delightful additions to the farm this week: 26 newly hatched chicks from our own incubated eggs and a surprise baby buck from Sassafras our old Alpine doe. She was pregnant after all and delivered with Juvencio’s help an enormous >10# baby buck.

News flash the goats just got into the grain (gate left unlocked!!) hopefully no one will get bloat.

Mapache did get bloat, her belly was enormous and we feared she would die, but the iphone to the rescue.  I quickly looked up treatment for goat bloat and drenched her with the help of Roy and Tracy. Then they walked her for 15 minutes. I provided some massaging to her now decreasing belly and she seems to be doing just fine. Another  day on the farm.
